Inside the filler

The filler of a cigar is made up separate half leaves by hand along the length, so that, there will be a passage through which the smoke can be drawn when the cigar is finished (Long filler). A characteristic that can only be achieved by hand-making. Three different types of are used:

  1. Ligero – Dark in color and full in flavour. Picked from the top of the plant where the growth and strength are the most full. The leaves must be matured for minimum of three years before used.
  2. Seco – Much lighter in color and dryer in texture, the Seco is taken from central leaves of the plant which still have flavour but much less than Ligero. They can be used after 18 months.
  3. Volado – Literally the “flying leaf”, picked from the bottom of the plant where little flavour/light. They used to assist the burning of the cigar and can be used after 9 months maturation.

It is the blending of these three filler leaves that creates the individual flavor of different brands. The balance structure between quantity and style of Ligero, Seco and Volado tobaccos naturally dictates the fundamental difference in flavor between the brands. Each brands is blended to its own flavor/recipe.
