SIZE
A cigar shape can vary greatly in size from brand to brand, describing a cigar by its size as well as shape is important. Cigars are measured by two factors:
- Length: which is given in inches
- Ring Gauge: a designation of a cigar’s diameter. Broken into 64th of an inch in diameter. Example ring gauge of 42, it means 42/64 of an inch in diameter.
SHAPE
There are two types of cigar’s shape:
- PAREZOS: Are straight-sided cigar, such as corona, petit corona, Churchill, robusto, Gran Corona, double corona, panatela, lonsdale, cigarillo, etc.
- FIGURADOS: Completely not straight. Funny shape, such as torpedo, pyramid, belicoso, perfecto, culebras.
COLORS
Cigar wrapper comes in a wide array of colors, from palest of greens, yellow to dark black. They are:
- Double claro or candela: light brown with greenish color.
- Natural & Connecticut Shade or Claro: Light tan brown color.
- Sun Grown or Colorado claro: Light reddish brown.
- Rosado or Colorado: Medium brown to brownish red.
- Colorado maduro: Darker than colorado, lighter than maduro
- Maduro: Deep reddish brown to almost black
- Oscuro: Black like night
